Team building and the gift that gives back

Creating a caring and hospitable company culture starts with your leaders and the little things that are done to reinforce an established ethos.

If you want your team to work collaboratively, to fight in the same corner and to show up – give them reasons to believe you’re in their corner too. More than that, give them ways to show each other and your customers that your organisation is about more than dollar signs.

Not every company has the resources to commit to supporting charitable causes and even those that do may find that making a more personal donation can rally the troops in unexpected ways.

FF Blood donor

This month the Knosys team took part in the Red25 challenge as a way of doing something meaningful together and giving back.

Did you know that 1 in 3 Australians will need blood or a blood product at some stage in their life – but that only 1 in 30 donates blood?!

The unfortunate fact is that each of us knows someone who is undergoing some form of treatment, has been through a medical trauma, illness or condition or who will face it sooner than we’d like to acknowledge. We might have even been in this position ourselves, but one thing is for certain: we can all relate to needing help.

While it’s very well to ask that people give blood more readily, it might surprise some to find out that not everyone can. There is quite an extensive list of things that could rule you out as a potential donor, making it even more important for those who can – to donate. Every donation has the power to save 3 lives! As far as team activities go, giving blood might no be as trendy as yoga in a field, but it’s so much more empowering and inspiring. The downward dog has nothing on what the Red Cross Blood Service can do for your inner well-being – helping others has a huge benefit for everyone.

The benefits

Not only does your blood potentially save the lives of a huge number of people, but if one or more of your team members possess that magical elixir that is O negative blood – they can help your team make even more of an impact.

Only 1 in 30 Aussies currently donate blood? And because only 1 in 10 of those are O negative, there’s very often a shortage in blood that’s available to those who need it. O negative patients, including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy can only receive O negative blood, so they rely on it more than anyone.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service takes blood donations from Australian’s like you and me every day so why not sign up to the Red 25 challenge today. Get your teams involved, save lives and show that at the core of everything you do – are people.

It doesn’t matter what size organisation you’re in – ultimately the size of your generosity is immeasurable to the people you help and every one counts.  Follow @redcrossbloodau and check out https://www.donateblood.com.au/red25 to find out more about giving as a team.
